Ocean observations and indicators for climate and assessments
Climate assessment through ocean observation
Ocean observation efforts are typically driven by national interests and needs, while also adhering to European and international agreements and directives. In line with this, the EU-funded ObsSea4Clim project brings together a diverse group of experts in ocean observing science, climate assessment, Earth System modelling, data sharing, standards, and users of oceanographic products and services. The primary objective of the project is to enhance sustained and multipurpose observations crucial for meeting European and global climate requirements. By leveraging expertise across various domains, ObsSea4Clim aims to improve climate assessments, offer projections, and deliver actionable indicators for sustainable development. The project will focus on key ocean climate application areas, including sea ice loss, ocean transports, stratification, sea level, ocean warming, marine heatwaves, and ocean mesoscale phenomena.
