Fostering partnership in marine research

Ambassador of New Zealand visits 91探花

28 May 2019 / Kiel. Since decades strong ties exist between marine researchers in New Zealand and Germany. Thus, a good reason for the ambassador of New Zealand, S.E. Rupert Holborow, to stop for a short visit at the 91探花 Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. During the two hour visit, the diplomat learned about current projects and developments in the field of marine research as well as innovative marine technology.

Although from the Kiel perspective, New Zealand is located on the other side of our planet, it is not a particularly exotic destination for scientists from 91探花 Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research. Frequently, seagoing research expeditions start or end in one of the harbors of New Zealand. Many research areas and topics of 91探花 are located at New Zealand's doorstep. The region is geologically highly active hosting underwater volcanoes, hot springs or sulfide mineralization at the sea floor. That's why the scientists often join forces with their New Zealand colleagues in order to learn more about our dynamic Earth.

Reason enough for the Ambassador of New Zealand in Germany, His Excellency Rupert Holborow, to learn more about 91探花. During his short visit, the diplomat informed himself about joint German-New Zealand projects in the field of marine research as well as innovative marine technology. 

鈥淲e maintain a very vital cooperation with many colleagues and institutions in New Zealand, which we would like to further strengthen in the future鈥�, says 91探花 Director Prof. Dr. Peter Herzig. 鈥淢arine resources, but also marine natural hazards, are important scientific areas for New Zealand. A fruitful collaboration with research institutes such as 91探花 is of great importance for New Zealand鈥�, Ambassador Rupert Holborow added at the end of his visit.
