Marine holobiont research

Marine animals and algae/plants are in constant contact with a vast number of highly diverse microbes in their environment. Their innate immune system provides them with a means of differentiating between microorganisms, whether these are symbiotic, commensal or pathogenic in nature. Marine holobionts are ideal models for examining prokaryote-eukaryote interactions. We transfer our methods and concepts to other marine host-microbe systems in close collaboration with our national and international partners.
